non mai

Since we can't seem to actually get to sleep at a reasonable hour, we're opting to get up early anyway.  After what can only be described as an early morning nap of a few hours, we're off to explore.  I'm not so sure that the night market is in the cards for tonight, but the Royal Palace sure is.  And in new Thai clothes nonetheless.  Gah-faa kor (coffee please)!

Hey Matt,

This is Lincoln. I just retrieved my old travel notes from my attic. I had jotten down on what is now some yellowing paper like old soft parchment- some sketches of some of the places I went to. And in the area of the Night market (located near PatPong Bars) is a note... DON'T go upstairs.

Let me know if you would ever run into Siam Suits...It's in downtown Bankok...I lost his card. But his name is Mr. W. Soh. If you should get in there. Would you mind getting his card for me? As well as asking whether he still has my measurements?- Lincoln Oro. I was there in 30 January 1999.

Re: Food....sample some frog legs for me. You haven't done South East Asia if you haven't tried the Durian fruit! It's a delicacy and an acquired taste for Filipinos, Indonesians, Thais, Malay, etc...Try Durian ice cream too.

Once you get on the Chao Praya in a boat...I'm sure you won't forget to sample the food offerings from the boat people! I loved their noodles with curry sauce and bean sprouts. I watched the lady cook it for me. My notes said that she was clean in her preparation and handling. As well as using boiled water. I remember going on a Khlong (canal) trip to Thonburi canals. Some of the views, you'd think you're in some James Bond chase scene.

On the weekends, don't forget to check out the deep fried insects and bugs at the Chatachuk weekend market (North Bangkok). I only took photos- not bites.

Enjoy the Wats along the river. And Garuda roof filials. They have their own architecture and statues. Chedis are the inverted bells structures. I think you'll find some of the ruins at Ayuthaya, quite interesting.

I expect, you'll run into Elephants in the streets...which is not altogether bad, considering nefarious or taunting human flesh would be worse.
Enjoy life's gifts and the different culture and chance encounters and the awareness of the universal traits of friendliness..And yet, also be wary enough to watch your back.
